Screen Use

Everybody is using screens more and more for both work and pleasure. A lot of people find that increase screen time does make their eyes feel uncomfortable and tired.

To help try the following;

Taking regular breaks. Remember the 20-20-20 Rule – every 20minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds. Giving your eyes a rest.

Blink regularly. Often when we are on screens we forget to blink and this will make your eyes dry & uncomfortable

Ensure the font you are using on your screen is easy to read

Anti reflective coatings on your spectacle lenses will help reduce reflections from the screen, at ASDA Opticians this is included in your complete glasses price

Sun

We always make sure we protect our skin in the sun but we should also make sure we protect our eyes. Especially for children, as they have bigger pupils and clear lenses meaning they can be more vulnerable. UV rays are linked to certain eye conditions likes cataracts and macular degeneration.

Make sure you and your family wear sunglasses in the sun with either the CE or UKCA markings to ensure full UV protection and pop on a hat to help protect from the glare.

We have a range of prescription sunglasses available for adults and children, click here to browse our range

DIY

It is important when doing DIY that you protect your eyes and your spectacles.

Wearing safety spectacles whilst completing DIY will help to keep your eyes and spectacles safe. Safety spectacles are available without prescription for over the top of your spectacles or with prescription. They are also available in a range of different materials and fittings depending on the type of DIY you will be doing.

Speak to an Optical Assistant in store for more information on our safety spectacle ranges

Did you know you that you can get prescription sports glasses/goggles, swimming goggles or contact lenses, which would allow you to place sport safely and with the best vision. Suitable for both adults and children too!

Eating healthily will also help avoid conditions like high blood pressure or high cholesterol which can also affect your eyes and vision.

There are lots of dietary supplements available, you should discuss these with your Optometrist who can advise what would be best for you.
